Bluegrass Review #1032 July 31, 2010– Aug 6, 2010
Today’s show begins with a focus on fiddlers.
Then guests Adam Granger and Lyle Lofgren arrive. Together, we consider the origins
of the “high lonesome sound.” Then, we take a detailed look and Bill Monroe’s

Bluegrass Review #1033 Aug 7, 2010– Aug 13, 2010
After sampling a piece of new bluegrass, we play
a couple of songs with nearly the same themes and very nearly the same titles. The
songs were recorded over a half century apart, and listening to them now offers
a good indication of some ways bluegrass has changed. Then, on our Gem of Bluegrass,
Lyle Lofgren Adam Granger and host Phil Nusbaum speculate on the earliest
influences on Bill Monroe’s bluegrass. Later in the show, we present Monroe’s mature musical style. . The playlist for this show

Bluegrass Review #1034 Aug 14, 2010– Aug 20, 2010
Our show begins with a little new Lonesome River
Band music. Then, Lyle Lofgren, Adam Granger and host Phil Nusbaum present “Plays
Well with Others…or Not.” Playing old-time recordings, the segment shows how some
old time musicians were able to better play with a solid group feel than
others. Later, the Gem of Bluegrass focuses on the development of
professionalism in old time music leading into bluegrass. The playlist for this
show is located at www.bluegrassreview.com.
